2013 Duck PosterWestport Winery earned four medals at the 2014 Los Angeles International Wine Competition where there were over 3000 entries from almost 1000 wineries. Night Watch, Duckleberry Grunt and Little Wild each earned silver medals while Pineapple Express received a bronze medal.

Duckleberry Grunt is the winery’s most popular creation. It is a blend of Gewurztraminer and blueberries. Described in the tasting notes as “A lusty, mountain quaff you hide from your friends” the wine is suggested to be enjoyed with Wild Pacific SalmonAs a musical pairing the song Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top fits the bill. A portion of the proceeds from this wine benefits Grays Harbor Ducks Unlimited. Perhaps the winery is Grays Harbor’s Duckleberry Dynasty.

Little Wild was the winery’s first fruit blend consisting of Riesling and blackberries. The tasting notes suggest that this is “Something a bear sips in the woods or a girl glugs in the garden.” It pairs perfectly with the winery’s Vanilla Bean Cheesecake while listening toSecret Garden by Bruce Springsteen. This wine benefits the Grays Harbor and Pacific Master Gardeners

Night Watch is a new creation by winemaker Dana Roberts of Merlot and Chocolate. This wine will be released later this fall. The evaluation says it is “The culmination of sweet meadow flowers and dark orchard tilth.” It is delightfully paired with Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie and the song Give Me Everything by Pitbull. Partial proceeds from this wine are dedicated to Harbors Home Health & Hospice.

2013 Pineapple PosterPineapple Express, an exotic blend of pineapple, Gewurztraminer and Riesling is described as “Easy breezy, happiness in flip flops at the beach.” It is best enjoyed with one of the winery’s Giant Cinnamon Rolls (topped with buttercream frosting and macadamia nuts) while listening to Over The Rainbow by Brother Iz. This wine benefits the Grays Harbor YMCA.

With these awards Westport Winery has earned over 300 medals in just six years.
