South Puget Sound Community College named Laurie Choate, formerly of Clatsop Community College, as the new Associate Dean for Nursing.
Choate spent a long tenure at Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Ore., where she directed their highly reputed nursing program, well recognized for its successful nursing graduates. She said she is extremely excited to bring her experience to South Puget Sound Community College to re-envision and re-launch the nursing program.
“I’m looking forward to returning to Washington, and the challenge of helping our nursing program reach its full potential,” Choate, who was born and raised in Pacific County, said. “There is tremendous support for the nursing program here.”
A graduate at the University of Washington, Choate earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing. She lived and worked in Melbourne, Australia, for four years with the Phillip Institute of Technology, before beginning her tenure at Clatsop. No stranger to the college’s program, Choate had already been helping on a part-time basis with the revamp of the SPSCC nursing program, coming up from Astoria once a week for the last six months.
She said she is excited to help shape the future of the revamped SPSCC Nursing Program.
“I’m looking forward to building the best program in the region. We have tremendous potential,” Choate said.
Choate started her position effective Jan. 1 on a part-time basis while she finished at Clatsop. She begins her full-time position April 1.
