Beachcombing is one of the best things about living on the coast. If you have ever wanted to know more about everything from the anatomy of a sand dollar to the chemical make-up of an agate, you are invited to attend the next free Great Lecture at Westport Winery.

Bountiful Beachcoming will be presented by naturalist Alan Rammer on Sunday, January 12, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This class is open to all ages and is free to attend. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. “Students” are encouraged to bring their best beach finds for analysis and conversation with Rammer and the rest of the attendees.

Rammer is co-author of the book Glass Fishing Floats of the World. He is retired from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and is a graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Shellfish Biology and Invertebrate Zoology. Alan’s enthusiasm for the beach is only eclipsed by his gift as an educator. Rammer was the recipient of the 2012 National Marine Educator of the Year award.

Ken Albert and Christine Hill will be performing in the winery’s restaurant immediately prior to Rammer’s program from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This is also free to attend and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon while enjoying a late lunch or wine tasting. Again, all ages are welcome at the winery and both of these events are free to attend.

Westport Winery, Restaurant, Bakery and Nursery is open daily at 11a.m to 6 p.m. The winery is open for lunch daily from 11 am. to 4 pm. and for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8.p.m. The winery with its unique grape maze, extraordinary outdoor sculpture and display gardens is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Westport and Aberdeen. For more information call Westport Winery at 360-648-2224.
