Tom Rohrer

ThurstonTalk is proud to welcome Tom Rohrer to our team.  Joining a team of over twenty people, Tom will be the first full-time writer on staff.

While Rohrer will focus primarily on sharing stories from local high schools, he will also be available to pick up stories with short deadlines.  “We are excited to get Tom out into the community, interviewing people, and sharing stories,” reports ThurstonTalk’s CEO, Dan Jones.

A graduate of Capital High School in 2006, Rohrer is eager to return to the Olympia area.  “It’s a perfect story of economic development – a local kid with a college education is able to return to Olympia for a full-time job,” adds Jones.

A native of Minnesota, Rohrer moved to the Olympia area in 1991, when his parents decided they wanted to live in an area with more variety and opportunity.  After graduating from Capital High School, Tom went on to study journalism at Washington State University.

At WSU, he wrote for the student newspaper and worked as an intern for the school’s athletic department.  About a year ago, Rohrer joined the Lake County Examiner in Lakeview, Oregon as a sports reporter.  He also served as a volunteer basketball coach for the local high school team.

A self-reported sports enthusiast, Rohrer grew up as a participant and spectator of Thurston County sports.  He earned his two-year varsity letter for Capital High School’s basketball team.

“As ThurstonTalk has grown, many of our customers are interested in sponsoring stories about high school students.  This piece of our business has increased dramatically over the past few months.  After reading a few sample articles, it was clear that Tom’s reporting skills are a perfect match for ThurstonTalk’s customers and readers,” summarizes Jones.

ThurstonTalk shares stories from our community.  Rohrer will continue our tradition of writing positive stories about people, businesses, and organizations doing good things in Thurston County.  With over 19,000 local Facebook fans across two pages and more than 250,000 views per month, ThurstonTalk is a leader in local information.
