Patrons of South Sound Cultural Arts (POSSCA) and Olympia Acoustic Music are sponsoring a special benefit concert on February 26 to raise money to support arts programs in our schools. The concert features Larry Murante, a Seattle-based singer/songwriter, who has gained a reputation as one of the finest contemporary singer/songwriters to emerge from the Northwest in recent years.

POSSCA promotes the value of art in education and community life in South Puget Sound. They do this by supporting activities, projects and programs that give young people an opportunity to deepen and extend their experience with art in education. State and federal funding for arts in the schools is decreasing every year. Art programs often fall by the wayside as school districts struggle to find money for the basics. POSSCA programs change the lives of South Sound kids. With just $10, POSSCA can help refurbish a musical instrument for a child whose family can’t afford a music program. POSSCA makes a big difference to a kid whose family can’t afford a musical instrument, or a high school senior who needs a scholarship to study the arts at college.

Olympia Acoustic Music is a volunteer-run folk and acoustic concert series bringing outstanding singer/songwriters to Olympia. The series features local, regional and national touring artists in six performances per year between October and May. Each show, held in an intimate downtown location seating about fifty people, provides the audience with an opportunity to meet and interact with the artist. For all concerts except this benefit, donations go entirely to support the artists.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to support the arts in Olympia while enjoying some terrific music.
