In the book world, the genre is called Young Adult, or YA. This is the categorical home of Harry Potter, Divergent, A Wrinkle in Time, The Book Thief, and books by authors Chelsea M. Campbell and Kendare Blake, both of whom will lead a writing workshops for teens in May.   Tumwater Timberland Library event held Friday, May 15 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the library, 7023 New Market Street. Campbell will talk about how she started writing (the website GoodReads says she finished her first novel at age 12) and about the writing process. Teen writers will learn practical tips: getting published and how to promote books on the web. Campbell wrote the “Renegade X” series, “Growing Up Dead” and “Harper Madigan, Junior High Private Eye.”

Blake will talk about character development, coach attendees through individual writing exercises and facilitate a group freewrite. Blake is known for the her YA horror novels, “Anna Dressed in Blood,“ “Girl of Nightmares,” “Antigoddess,” and “Mortal Gods.”
