Hyekyeong Hannah Cho is the featured piano soloist performing Wilhelm Stenhammar’s second piano concerto.   Mendelssohn’s concert overture “The Hebrides”, Bellini’s overture to the opera Norma and Beethoven’s “Creatures of Prometheus” ballet overture evoke fantastic tales and legends.

OCO remembers Judith Martin, the principal cellist in the Olympia Chamber Orchestra for 17 years who died in March.  She played with Olympia Symphony Orchestra and in countless performances of shows, operas, string quartets and chamber music. Judi was a freelance musician in New York and played a number of times for the famous conductor, Leopold Stokowski. Over the years hundreds of cellists studied with her.  OCO cellists and Judi’s students and colleagues from the area will  perform “Morgen” by Richard Strauss, and “Abendlied” by Joseph Rheinberger, sung by  Darrell Born.

Wilhelm Stenhammar’s second piano concerto, opus 2 isn’t heard often enough in America. Maestro Carlson’s Swedish heritage prompted him to program this romantic, intricate work to perform with Hannah, who is excited to take on a fresh challenge. Stenhammar, 1871-1927, was a pianist, composer and conductor who was elected into the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 1900.
