Join us at the library for this special presentation of the landmark film Born in Flames, which celebrates its 40th anniversary the week of this screening. Set in an alternate socialist democratic United States, Born in Flames delves into anti-racism, feminism, and political upheaval. Director Lizzie Borden made the film over the course of five years, and it remains a standout of do-it-yourself experimental cinema.

Check out this interview with Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna, who speaks about the film “that’s inspired her for decades”–https://thedissolve.com/features/mad-love/298-kathleen-hanna-on-the-film-thats-inspired-her-for-/

The film begins at 6:30 pm. Those interested can stay after the screening for a brief discussion.

Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.
