Does the eradication of racist laws really combat institutionalized racism? How does subtle and sometimes hidden institutionalized racism affect the citizens, economy, and future of Washington State? Humanities Washington speaker, Eva Abram, will discuss this difficult topic at the Olympia Timberland Library, Thursday, December 10 from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.

Some of the topics Abram will address are: the history of racism and how it affects specific groups of people, how slavery and the “Jim Crow” laws might ultimately support contemporary generations of African Americans, how the racial divide still exists despite progress to eradicate it in recent decades. Abram believes that conversation and cooperation can inspire progress and positive action. During this discussion, she will suggest ways to achieve that goal.
