Folk darling and ‘A Prairie Home Companion’ favorite coming to Olympia’s historic Capitol Theater, SEPTEMBER 10, 2015, with Pieta Brown.

The Olympia Film Society is delighted to announce that singer-songerwriter IRIS DEMENT will be playing the historic Capitol Theater on Thursday, September 10, 2015.  Called “the best singer I’ve ever heard,” by Merle Haggard, and a frequent, beloved guest on NPR’s wildly popular ‘A Prairie Home Companion,’ Iris Dement has spent her 20+ year career singing for the spirit.

It’s this attitude that has led her to duets with John Prine, Steve Earle, and Emmylou Harris, a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk album, and music featured in the final scenes and credits for ‘Northern Exposure,’ and the Coen brother’s ‘True Grit.’  Dement also appeared in, and was included in the soundtrack for, the 2000 film ‘Songcatchers.’  Iris Dement is currently touring in support of her album ‘A Trackless Woods.’  Americana artist Pieta Brown to open.

Advance and OFS Member tickets are $20.  Day of show (9/10/15) tickets are $25.  Tickets are available online (olympiafilmsociety.org) and at the box office.  General admission seating only.  Doors open at 7:00pm; show begins at 8:00pm.  This show is all ages, and the Mezzanine Lounge will be open to 21+ w/ID.

The Olympia Film Society (OFS) was formed in 1980 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3). Its mission is “to enliven and enrich our community by presenting and fostering the development of independent and underrepresented film, music and allied arts.”
