Golfers of all levels are invited to support All Kids Win at its first-ever tournament at the Golf Club at Hawks Prairie on April 28, 2023. Registration is open for players, and businesses are invited to become a sponsor. It’s a shotgun start. Each team of four begins its round on a different hole, so the entire course is being used at the same time. The match is a scramble, where each golfer hits their own ball throughout the match, and the best lie within the team is chosen to use where the next shot begins for those players. It’s all about having fun and supporting All Kids Win, an important organization that helps to feed many students in our community.

“It’s our very first golf tournament,” says Kelly Wilson, loving and energetic founder of All Kids Win. “We are being creative and want to keep up with the demand,” she says. The number of students who experience food insecurity  is sobering. Some of these students are also experiencing homelessness. All Kids Wins fills bags of food for youth to take with them over the weekend. It is meant to feed one person, but it is known that the food is often shared with the whole family. The most recent week’s count went from just over 750 to 941 students in need. “We are in a whirlwind just trying to keep up,” says Kelly.

$10 Fills an All Kids Win Bag

The cost of each filled bag is a few cents under $10. You can see how the numbers add up quickly. “The school counselors are doing an extraordinary job of connecting with kids in need,” believes Kelly. All the schools need more help. Recently, the Wa-He-Lute Indian School in Nisqually, that had received help in the past but stopped for a while, has again requested support.

Lindsey Lundholm became a board member in late 2020. A friend invited her to a bagging party, where she learned more about the organization. “I align with the mission,” she says. The mission is to end homelessness by giving youth needed help to focus on school, to graduate and become contributing citizens. “We make sure that kids have food on the weekends,” she adds. Lindsey has four boys of her own and is grateful to be in a position to help others. “More and more people want to help. All Kids Win is local, and it is something in our own community that matters,” she says.

Help All Kids Win in Other Ways

You may not be a golfer or may be unavailable on the tournament day. There are other ways to help All Kids Win. Donate a raffle item to the tournament.

You could have a canned food drive with your church group or book club. For example, Pope John Paul II High School has a contest in the fall to collect cans of chili and one in the new year for cans of tuna. “We recently received 600 cans of tuna,” reports Kelly. The students have competitive fun and everyone wins. All Kids Win organizes groups to package food each week. Some people are shoppers. A business can put its logo on the food bags. All Kids Wins also appreciates people who may want to serve on the board.
