We’re on the cusp of another gorgeous Washington spring and that means one thing: it’s time to be outside. Whether you prefer dining al fresco, an afternoon on the links or relaxing poolside, there’s something for everyone at the Olympia Country & Golf Club. Not a member? You’re in luck because their membership drive runs March 1 through May 31 and showcases all the Club has to offer.

This year’s membership special echoes the one held last year. General Manager Jason Reehm says that after 2021’s event, “We had over 150 new members join our club, and we have a lot more room to grow!” They are Olympia’s only private country club and joining during the special waives your initiation fee for all member categories. “We require a one-year commitment when joining the club, and with initiation fees waived, prospective members can save thousands if they join now,” says Reehm.

Though it’ll be a few weeks before Washington’s weather is truly golf-friendly, staff are working on the course all year round. “We have made numerous changes to our golf course aesthetically,” says Reehm, “cleaning up various holes for more playability and removing trees and stumps that enhance the visual component of the course and functionality. We have also redesigned our restaurant and wine menus as well as offering a very successful On the Go menu for our golfers and members that want a quick bite. We now offer a $10 lunch special daily that is the best deal in town for our members.”

But it’s more than just golf at the Club. “Our club has some unique features that no other club has in the Olympia area,” says Reehm proudly. “First, we are the only private club in the South Sound. Second, we are a private club that has its own dock which members can use when they golf or dine. Third, we have the only outdoor pool in the Olympia area for our members to use in the spring and summer. Our par 71 golf course is challenging and rewarding, and we are known for having the best greens in the area. We offer a kid’s camp during the summer for our members children as well as a great junior golf program. We also have one of the best pickleball court views in state and very active group that loves the game.”

Olympia Country & Golf Club has exercise classes in their well-stocked fitness center including yoga, core workouts, stretching and nutrition. Treadmills, elliptical machines, recumbent bikes, cable weights, medicine balls and swiss balls are all available to use from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. with stunning waterfront views.

They also maintain a pickle ball court with a water view and a second court in the parking garage for inclement weather. They organize teams and will host five tournaments in 2022 alone. There are scheduled weekly games as well as on-site sign-up sheets for players wanting an impromptu pick-up game. Tournaments will take place each month from May through September.

For those who are less athletically inclined, Reehm promises to: “have a full slate of events for our members monthly. We on average have six events each month for our members to enjoy, from steak or prime rib nights to Madi Gras. Our lecture series is very popular and family events like Bingo Night get a great response. We also have big events for all the holidays which members really enjoy.”

However you work up an appetite, visit Terrace on the Green to start your day off right or finish the night with dessert and a cocktail. From calamari to smoked duck salad, ahi tuna or cheesy rustic flatbread, you’ll enjoy it all with views of the Sound, mountains and gorgeous surrounding greenery.

For those 21+ consider participating in their Wine Program. Food and Beverage Manager Heather Wilson explains that in this “includes monthly events like five to six course wine dinners, Connoisseur Club quarterly Wine Expos, Wine 101 Sommelier Series events and a really great value Retail Wine Program for these events and the restaurant wine list too.”

Wine dinners are held each quarter and at the Wine Expo between 12 and 20 different wines are showcased with hors d’oeuvres. “Members who participate have the opportunity to vote for their favorite wines of the night,” says Wilson, “and then those winning wines are featured on the wine list for the next quarter. Our retail wine program is also a great value for our members. We offer such a great retail rate for the wines that are shown at each event and those on our quarterly wine lists at the Terrace on the Green Restaurant. It’s the best pricing you can get in town and often better than the wine maker themselves!”
