Community members can get the latest information about the proposed new option for travelers around downtown Yelm. The Washington State Department of Transportation will host an online open house between Monday, October 28, and Monday, December 2.

WSDOT proposes to build the remaining 3 miles of State Route 510 between Cullens Road and 170th Street Southeast at SR 507. The effort, called SR 510 Yelm Loop – Phase 2, expands on previous work to help reduce congestion through Yelm’s downtown core.

“This is an opportunity to get the latest developments since our open house held in Yelm during fall 2018,” said WSDOT Project Engineer Bill Elliott. “We’ve made a lot of progress since that time and want to share the information.”

The proposed two-lane roadway will feature a shared use path for bicyclists and pedestrians, roundabouts and proposed safety enhancements where SR 510 Yelm Loop connects with SR 507. Construction is slated to begin late 2021 and the roadway will open to travelers in late 2023.

The online open house is an informative opportunity for new community members who may not be familiar with the plans. It also provides a chance for people to share their comments on the project.

This $58.5 million project is funded by the Connecting Washington transportation package.
