Music Director Huw Edwards announced in September that this season would be his last with the Olympia Symphony Orchestra. After shepherding the Olympia Symphony Orchestra for 17 years, he plans to return to his beloved home in the United Kingdom.

The Olympia Symphony Orchestra is poised to begin a search process for a new music director and it is vital that we enlist members of the South Sound community in our efforts.

The OSO Board of Directors and Executive Director have endorsed a path that broadly follows the process and guidance of the League of American Orchestras’ Music Director Search Handbook. Based on those recommendations, our Search Committee will include:

  • 6 musicians representing the orchestra
  • 4 board members representing the board
  • 2 people representing the community
(may increase up to 4 people, depending on interest)

We invite you to consider representing the community on our Music Director Search Committee. If you are interested, please review the information about the search process, our timeline, and the responsibilities of search committee members. Then, complete the online Letter of Interest form by 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 8.

Community representatives will be selected by a vote of OSO Board of Directors from the pool of people who have expressed interest.

If you have questions about this opportunity or the process, please contact Olympia Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Jennifer Hermann via email at jhermann@olympiasymphony.org or by phone at 360.753.0074.

Thank you for caring about symphonic music in the South Sound!
