For the last 30 years, Lacey residents have come together to enjoy a day of family fun with the Lacey Spring Fun Fair. This year’s event takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, at Saint Martin’s University, 5300 Pacific Avenue SE. It runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Expected to attract hundreds of visitors, the weekend includes activities and entertainment, rides and games, live performances, vendors, and food concessions. As always, the Lacey Spring Fun Fair is free to attend.

Charter College will have a table at the event, and the team is looking forward to talking to families and answering questions from anybody interested in learning more about the school.

“We really enjoy celebrating Lacey with this event every year,” said Charter College Lacey Campus President Dr. Bruce Higdon. “This is such a fun way for us to spend time with members of the community and share how we can help potential students get the skills they need to achieve their goals.”

Charter College Lacey offers residents of Thurston County career education opportunities in healthcare with blended on-campus programs in Medical Assistant and Pharmacy Technician.

With Medical Assistant training, graduates can have careers in a wide variety of positions, including: Medical Assistant, Clinical Assistant, Medical Receptionist, or Medical Office Assistant. The Charter College Medical Assistant program incorporates a combination of clinical, technical and business skills making graduates employable in 10 months.

The Pharmacy Technician program prepares students for employment as an entry-level assistant to a licensed pharmacist. The program provides the fundamentals of pharmacy calculations, drug distribution systems, preparation of sterile dosage forms, customer service, pharmacy law and ethics, and pharmacy operations.

Charter College’s innovative Blended Learning curriculum combines a hands-on classroom experience with online course work. “This schedule offers students more flexibility with their schedules, allowing them to work and manage family life,” said Higdon. “It also saves them daily travel time and expenses, offering them the convenience of learning from home and receiving classroom hands-on support.”

Of course, Charter College is just one small part of the Lacey Fun Fair. 2017 highlights included pony rides, Pirate’s Revenge, Fun Fair Circus Train, ballistic swings, the Jurassic Adventure Playground, a giant slide, a fire truck, and more than 30 booths with kid’s crafts, games and giveaways. Unfortunately, Fido has to stay home for this one, as there is a no pet policy.

Parking is limited, so organizers recommend these alternatives:

  • A free shuttle bus runs all weekend, every 15 minutes from South Sound Mall (by the Flag Pavilion/Civic Plaza) to Saint Martin’s University.
  • Public transportation is another great option. Intercity Transit Bus #67 has the closest stops to Lacey Spring Fun Fair. Plan your trip now by clicking
  • There is some parking at the Franz Street entrance. You can also park at Lacey City Hall and walk along the bike path to the University.
