Trick-or-treaters from the South Sound Area are invited to don their Halloween apparel and come to the University, 5000 Abbey Way, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 for Community Halloween, a celebration with Saint Martin’s students.

Community Halloween, formerly called “Halloween in the Halls,” is planned by the University’s students and is an annual celebration. The rumpus begins in Charneski Recreation Center on campus, where children and their families can join in the games and crafts. An event photographer will be on hand to take free photos.

Everyone also is invited to be spirited away to the spooktacularly decorated residence halls nearby for trick-or-treating. The event is recommended for children 13 and under.

“Our students love to hand out treats as trick-or-treaters come by their rooms,” says Heather Nicole Saladino, residence director. “This is a great way to celebrate Halloween with local families – it’s warm, it’s dry and it’s fun!”

In an effort to create a more inclusive event, Saint Martin’s is participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project, a movement by the organization Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), Saladino said.

“FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project helps make sure all children will come home on Halloween night with something they can enjoy. It just takes one simple act: offering non-food treats, such as glow sticks or small toys, as an alternative to candy,” said Saladino. “Last year, households from all 50 states and 14 countries participated. This is a worldwide movement to create a safer, happier Halloween for all trick-or-treaters.” She said information about the project can be found at http://www.foodallergy.org/teal-pumpkin-project/about#.V-mvNMk_Od4

Saladino says the first 200 kids to arrive at Community Halloween will receive a free, reusable, Halloween bag. Costumes are strongly encouraged to amp up the fun!
