Perseverance, hard work and superior customer service are often cited as the key elements to running a successful small business. While Jeff Olson, owner of Hawks Prairie Home Furnishings in Lacey and Northwest Home Furnishings on the westside of Olympia would agree with those key elements, he also believes owning a small local business is a privilege granted by the community. In return for all the community support he receives in his furniture businesses, Olson feels strongly about giving back to the community. So that is just what Olson intends to do. On March 17, Northwest Home Furnishings will celebrate one year with an Anniversary Event that will include food, prizes, and charitable donations for the children of Thurston County.
“We want to provide an alternative to the traditional night out for St. Patrick’s Day so we created a unique anniversary event to celebrate the milestone of one year at Northwest Home Furnishings while recognizing the support of other local businesses through their participation in auction donations and raffle prizes, offering customers special discounts on furniture items all the while donating the proceeds to two incredible charitable nonprofits in our community – Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwest Washington and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Thurston County,” explains Olson.
Guests are invited to take a leisurely tour of the store while viewing auction items scattered throughout. Enjoy a wine tasting from Grand Vin Wine Merchants as well. Raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the evening with a grand prizes of a Queen Tempurpedic Weightless supreme and a $1,000 gift certificate good at either furniture store.
“We feel one of the best ways to invest in our community is our youth. We wanted to have a fun event where people can donate to some great organizations and also be able to get something in return. It’s a win-win,” Olson explains. “There will be many different furniture pieces in addition to donations from several local businesses. The best part is that 100% of the silent auction proceeds will be donated to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southwest Washington and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Thurston County.”
Olson revealed a few of the silent auction items which will include themed luxury home decor baskets from both Hawks Prairie Home Furnishings and Northwest Home Furnishings, a champagne dinner shopping party at LOLA Lifestyle Boutique, gift cards from a variety of local restaurants such as Ricardo’s Steakhouse, Mercato Ristorante, Waterstreet Cafe and Bar, Pints and Quarts Pub, and Mi Pueblo Taqueria as well as gift certificates from local shops like Aych Electronics and Primp Lash and Beauty Boutique.
Additionally, Olson’s two stores will be auctioning off a huge selection of various furniture pieces and decor. Olson encourages people to visit the stores’ Facebook page leading up to the event for daily updates on silent auction.
In addition to the silent auction, the Northwest Home Furnishings Anniversary Event will be presenting raffle prizes from local retailers such as Bon Lemon, Spruce Skin and Wax Shoppe, LOLA Lifestyle Boutique, Poppi Photography, Focus Fitness, Captain Little, Abby’s Cookies & Cupcakes and more. The event is truly a celebration of community and small businesses with the purpose of supporting youth in Thurston County.
As if that wasn’t enough, for every $100 customer donation, the Hawks Prairie Home Furnishings store will donate a mattress to underprivileged children in our community. Hawks Prairie Home Furnishings will donate 100% of the proceeds to the charity. Additionally, Northwest Home Furnishings will offer free local delivery for purchases of a $100 minimum and no sales tax during the charitable anniversary event.
The goal of the anniversary event is to raise over $10,000 for the kids of Thurston County. “We want this to be a fun night for people who live in Thurston County to come out to sample some wine, have fun and most of all raise money to put back into our youth who live in Thurston County.” Hawks Prairie Home Furnishings has been doing business locally for over 10 years while Northwest Home Furnishings is celebrating one year in the community.
