Westport Winery Garden Resort is offering a unique inclusion for 2016 reservations in their new outdoor event center. Bookings of their Victorian Wedding Garden and Pavilion have a $1000 rental fee that includes $1000 in wine, so basically use of the facility is free.
Creator of this concept, and winery co-owner Kim Roberts said, “It seems like the price of getting married has become almost cost prohibitive in some situations.” This is verified in the trend of many couples eloping to avoid the drama of escalating competition in creating the most over-the-top ceremony or simply indefinitely postponing the ceremony to save money for their first home.
Westport’s goal is to make it affordable and fun to simply tie the knot without breaking the budget.
“The notion that a wedding needs to be an extravaganza puts a lot of extra pressure on everyone involved,” Roberts cautioned. With that in mind, the winery allows couples to potluck or hire their favorite caterers when enjoying the resort’s garden wedding venue.
In addition to the wine, the $1000 fee includes use of the Victorian Wedding Garden, a high-top pavilion tent, the wedding ready room, and a separate parking area for wedding guests.
There is a sign in the wedding ready room—which used to be a chicken house—that says it best: “Find soulmate, Pick a date, Invite friends, Dress special, Say ‘I do’, Live happily ever after.’” The resort’s goal is to allow couples to focus on their future together, building a home and having a family without not being saddled with debt or worry on the day of the wedding.
Even though the word winery is in the name, all ages—and dogs—are welcome at celebrations in this garden resort. “In our family, the dogs are sometimes the most important consideration as we make decisions on where we want to spend our leisure time.” This is why the resort boasts an off-leash dog park in addition to welcoming dogs throughout the gardens while on-leash.
