The deadline for applications for the fall training is soon and the class is filling up.

Applications for this year’s Master Recycler Composter (MRC) training are due August 16 by 5 p.m. There is still room for more applicants. Applicants are passionate about recycling and composting. They include people who are retired and want to help their community, working people who want to help their workplace be green, or students and part time workers who wish to build skills and their resumes.

Training will be held every other Tuesday evening, September 3 through October 29. Two Saturday morning field trips are scheduled September 21 and October 5. MRC volunteers learn how to reduce waste and increase public awareness of opportunities to prevent waste, recycle, and compost in Thurston County.

Course graduates agree to give a minimum of 20 hours of yearly service and 5 hours of continuing education. Volunteers help residents, schools, businesses, or groups to prevent waste, recycle, or compost. Some volunteers help share resources and information at specials events or give workshops. MRCs can design their own projects or work on existing ones. On-going continuing education opportunities are provided.

Online applications are available now at www.surveymonkey.com/s/MRCApplication. Preference will be given to applicants who live or work in Thurston County.

A $75 course fee will be collected at the first class to cover all training supplies and field trips.
