Maybe you’re concerned about your health, or the health of someone in your family.  Maybe you’ve had a health crisis or seen a friend go through one.  Either way, you’ll probably agree that good health is probably one of the greatest assets that anyone can have…and it’s worth retaining!   Come out and Buy Local at the Puget Sound Wellness Association’s 5th Annual Wellness EXPO!  We’ll help you get all of your holiday gift shopping done, and you could win one of many door prizes just for coming by!

The 5th Annual Wellness EXPO will be on Saturday, November 24th, from 10:00 – 4:00, at the Governor’s Hotel in downtown Olympia.  The first 250 people will get free goodie bags, and everyone attending will be eligible for a variety of raffle and door prizes.  You’ll see hands-on demonstrations, and you’ll be able to ask all of your burning health questions to the local experts, including medical doctors, massage therapists, chiropractors, nutrition and water experts, fitness experts, and representatives from many local health and wellness organizations.  Who couldn’t stand to get a 10-minute chair massage while you get your holiday shopping done?

At 11:00 a.m., we’ll be featuring Dr. Evan Hirsch, of Hirsch Holistic Family Medicine.  Feeling overwhelmed and fatigued with normal life…and now the holidays on top of it all?  Dr. Hirsch will work with us on, “Fatigue:  Find the Cause and Find the Cure.”

On hand will be Physician’s Assistant, David Overton. David will present a very revealing one-hour workshop starting at 1:00 p.m., called, “How We Loose Our Health.”

The Puget Sound Wellness Association is a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings together health and wellness practitioners of all types.  The group meets to discuss the latest in health techniques, strategies and practices, and to educate each other and the community at large about the variety of healthcare options available in the Puget Sound area.  Practitioners from every arena come together to network, build relationships and referral partnerships, and to talk about how they can make the most difference in the health of our local community.  The Wellness EXPO is one of the ways this Association provides health education to local community members like you.

There are four ways to get yourself in:
1) Bring in the FREE ADMITTANCE COUPON appearing in the Nov 23 edition of the Coffee News, or

2) Pick up a FREE ADMITTANCE TICKET at a local PSWA member’s office during the week before the event
2) Bring two canned good items for the Thurston County Food Bank, or
3) Pay $5 at the door

PSWA members represent a wide range of practitioner types, from acupuncturists to zumba instructors, and everything in between.  PSWA helps members with their marketing, supporting them in making connections with other practitioners in the local community, and allowing them to “be found” online via the PSWA Online Directory of Practitioners.  PSWA also offers educational programs to its members, where they can deepen their understanding of various business topics, from writing business plans to tax prep, and how to gain and retain clientele.  Members of the public are invited to come and check out PSWA by attending one of the regular monthly meetings, which are held on the 4th Tuesday night of each month.  PSWA welcomes health and wellness practitioners as members, and it also welcomes other local businesses who want to support health practitioners in our community, via its “affiliate membership” program.

PSWA also offers its members shared vendor tables at local events, so that small business owner members aren’t having to spend $400 to $500 a piece in order to have a presence at local events.  Members can go to local events then to represent both their own business, and the association, at no charge.

An example of one successful PSWA member company is G.F. Joe’s Markets, which is a grocery store that carries ONLY gluten-free products.  They also specialize in dairy free, casein free, soy free, egg free, yeast free, corn free, potato free, peanut free and tree nut free.  So no matter what the food allergy or intolerance, GF Joe’s can help! Owners Kaylee and Joe Spancic, are some of the most knowledgeable folks around when it comes to the practical implications of dealing with food allergies – and they can speak from experience.  Joe himself is a Celiac, and he eats an entirely gluten free diet.  The G.F. Joe’s Olympia store has been very successful, and they have just opened a new location in Tacoma to continue serving this ever-expanding market.

PSWA membership also boasts world-renowned Parkinson’s Recovery Expert, Robert Rogers, who hosts the weekly radio program, The Parkinson’s Recovery Radio Show.

At the Wellness EXPO

The Puget Sound Wellness Association offers this to practitioners:  “Get Connected.  Be Found.  Make a Difference.”  If you are a health and wellness practitioner who is committed to making a difference and would like to reach more people, please join the Puget Sound Wellness Association as a member for only $95 for the year. During 2013, PSWA will also begin offering CEU hours for attending some of its regular monthly educational programs.
