Parks officials give users a break : Discover Pass

Rangers, at Millersylvania State Park were issuing tickets this Fourth of July weekend, dozens of them, maybe more, to those who didn’t have the new Discover Pass.

But, for the most part, the tickets were just a warning. A spokesman at the park said he had issued only one ticket that day. All of the rest of them were warnings.

While park officials won’t say so, they also intend to give park users a break next weekend as well, although any blatant efforts to get in without a pass may be ticketed. They did say that by the weekend of July 16-17 – – there would be no more warnings.

Discover Passes can be purchased anywhere you get a fishing or hunting license, or where you renew your car tabs. Passes can be purchased at state parks, but not all state parks have staffed stations.
