As the spring season gets into full swing, it is time for local golf enthusiasts, professionals and business owners to hit the green for the Lacey South Sound Chamber Golf Classic Tournament. An annual tradition for over three decades, the Golf Classic Tournament is not only a day of fun on the golf course, but also a unique venue to cultivate connections with fellow members of the South Sound community.

“It’s a great opportunity for businesses to go out and connect with other businesses,” explains Blake Knoblauch, executive director for the Lacey South Sound Chamber. “Have a fun day out on the golf course and network in a low-key environment.”

The Golf Classic Tournament Is an Annual Tradition for the South Sound Community

The 2023 Golf Classic Tournament will take place on Friday, May 12 at the Capitol City Golf Club. Tournament tickets are $130 for individual golfers and $500 for a team of four. For military and first responders, individual tickets are $100. The ticket price includes a golf cart, range balls, a continental breakfast, taco bar lunch and drink tickets. There will also be birdie goodie bags that include the annual Golf Classic Tournament hat.

The Golf Classic Tournament will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start and tournament golfers will have the chance to hit at all 18 holes at the Capitol City Golf Club. The Golf Classic Tournament welcomes players of all experience levels, whether this is their first time on the green, or they have a regular tee time.

In addition to visits with hole sponsors, golfers will also have opportunities to participate in raffles, including a 50/50 raffle, while also competing for hole-in-one prizes throughout the day. The event will close out with a taco bar lunch and an award presentation, which provides additional opportunities for golfers to mix, mingle and connect with members of the South Sound business community.

“This is one of the premier golf events in the South Sound every year,” says Knoblauch. “We look forward to it year after year. It is a day of fun and a great way to network with other businesses, other community members in a very laid back and friendly environment. There’s a lot of business that happens on the golf course and this golf tournament is a great way to help initiate that.”

Local Sponsors Support the Community Through the Golf Classic Tournament

Knoblauch says one of the aspects that sets the Lacey South Sound Chamber Golf Classic Tournament apart is the active participation from event sponsors. Sponsors host tables at each hole of the golf course and each sponsor table will have special festivities planned for golfers. Hole sponsors are able to design their hole table around a theme and may include games, drinks or treats for the golfers.

A wide swath of local businesses act as hole sponsors for the tournament each year and sponsor tables can provide pathways for attendees and fellow business owners to connect. If business owners are looking to get involved, a limited number of sponsorship opportunities are still available.

“There’ll be 18 opportunities to meet a hole sponsor and each hole sponsor will have a different activity for them to participate in,” says Mike Jones, treasurer of Lacey South Sound Chamber, and chair for the Golf Classic Tournament. “And so, some could just be trying to chip your golf ball into a corn hole, throw a football through a hoop. It’s a way to get to know the sponsors that we have, and how they support the community. Then, it’s really just about you having fun as a golfer.”
