The girls soccer team from North Thurston High School defeated rival 3A River Ridge 2-0 in  South Sound Conference play Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at South Sound Stadium in Lacey.

The Rams (4-7-1, 3A SSC 3-6-1) were led by two goals from sophomore striker Payton Smith. Lizzie Clemens assisted on the first half near-post goal from Smith and Daliya Prohim was credited with the assist on the second half goal.

Head coach for North Thurston, Dewayne Thomas, was pleased with his team’s effort. “Our season so far has had its highs and lows, but the girls keep competing game after game,” Thomas remarked. “It really is a coaches’ dream to see their players working together to achieve a unified goal and the girls have made that a reality this season for me.”

River Ridge (1-10, 3A SSC 0-10) head coach Kristin Liukkonen was disappointed for the loss but was happy with her team’s level of play. “We are a very young team so we are working on rebuilding,” Liukkonen stated. “This is a really great group of girls and they are working really hard as a team.”

River Ridge travels to Central Kitsap Thursday and North Thurston hosts Peninsula.
