As an expansion of Mason Health’s Language & Cultural Services, the District would like to announce the addition of two Spanish-speaking health care providers this year.
Dr. Carlos Rubio-Reyes, MD, joined the District in January and is available to care for Spanish-speaking patients at MGH Family Health Clinic. Book an appointment by calling 360-426-3862.
Dr. Rubio-Reyes was born in El Salvador and became inspired to go into medicine because his father was a physician who cared for patients no matter their background. He studied pre-medicine at the University of Toronto and decided to pursue graduate school in pharmacology, also in Toronto. After more than five years working in Ontario as a licensed pharmacist, he decided to go back to school to pursue his passion to become a physician.
“I enjoyed my time as a pharmacist, but I wanted to be on the front lines so I could serve rural communities and Spanish-speaking people,” he said.
He studied medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Facultad de Medicina in Mexico City and at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.
Prior to coming to Mason Health, he practiced medicine in rural Missouri for more than two years.
Dr. Benjamin May, DO, is also available to care for Spanish-speaking patients at Mason Clinic. He joined Mason Health in July. Call 360-426-2653 to book an appointment.
Dr. May grew up in Vancouver, Washington, and attended college in Southern Virginia University, in Buena Vista, Virginia, and felt that medicine was a great way to apply science in the real world.
Dr. May went on to attend Pacific Northwest University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, and graduated in 2017. He decided to do a rural residency program through Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, so for three years, Dr. May practiced in a small, family clinic in Lewis County, where he was able to put his fluent Spanish-speaking skills to good use.
He has been happy to reach out to the Hispanic community.
“They are some of my favorite patients, and it’s important for them to see someone who speaks their language,” he said. “Working for equity in all things in our community is important.”

We provide professional medically certified interpreters at no charge to non-English speaking (Limited English Proficient), deaf or hard of hearing, blind or other sensory impaired patients.
