The Tumwater T-Bird girls basketball team defeated Rochester 70-35 Friday, January 10, 2020, in Rochester to advance to 12-0 on the season. Tumwater continues to lead the EVCO league at 2-0 and Rochester moves to 1-1 in 2A EVCO play.

The T-Birds ladies started the game fast and furious leading 19-3 and 36-16 after half time. Rochester found some momentum after half time but could not overcome a tenacious and focused Tumwater team.

Tumwater coach Robin Johnson was proud of the strong play from her team. “We did a really good job of executing our game plan and working together as a team with our whole nine really contributing,” stated Johnson.

Tumwater hopes to continue on in its winning ways against a tough 2A EVCO league that contains cross-town rival A G West Black Hills and south EVCO force  W F West. “My personal overall goal is for each player to be the best version of themselves and play to their potential, but the team’s goal is to win league,” Johnson proclaimed.

For Rochester coach Davina Serdahl, the game didn’t turn out how the Warriors hoped. “They have multiple weapons and you try to slow one of them down and the others pick up,” Serdahl explained about the strong Tumwater team. “We battled for sure, but we just don’t have the quickness to match Tumwater at this time.”

Tumwater moves on to host two games against Centralia and W F West next week and Rochester hosts W F West and travels to Tumwater to meet Black Hills.
