Submitted by Thurston Economic Development Council
The Thurston EDC’s Center for Business & Innovation (CB&I) is pleased to announce that the Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded a significant grant to the Center. The grant award will directly support the CB&I’s Washington Center for Women in Business (WCWB) coaching, counseling and mentoring program and enable the WCWB to continue to extend their programmatic reach and counseling throughout the southern portion of Thurston County.
The program provides technical assistance and long-term business counseling to entrepreneurs and supports efforts to launch new businesses and expand markets for existing operations. The WCWB, in its fifth year of operation, has provided technical assistance to over 230 clients to date, over 540 hours of one-on-one advising and supported the launching of 16 new businesses last year.
“The grant will provide the financial resources to ensure that these services will continue to be provided to women entrepreneurs and those individuals seeking long term mentorship to grow and sustain their businesses,” says Michael Cade, Executive Director of Thurston EDC. “We are so thankful for the support and contribution of Wells Fargo Foundation.”

About the Thurston Economic Development Council and Center for Business & Innovation
The Thurston Economic Development Council has been supporting a strong economy in Thurston County since 1982 with a mission to create a dynamic and sustainable economy that supports the values of the people who live and work in Thurston County. At the foundation of the work we do are three main principles: recruit, retain, and expand. We work to maintain the health of local businesses by offering technical assistance and providing advocacy on their behalf. We present market opportunities to Thurston County employers, providing support for them to expand their operations. We actively attract investment and employment opportunities into our region through outreach, promotion and trade missions.
About the Washington Center for Women in Business
The WCWB is a program of the Center for Business & Innovation (CB&I), whose mission is to empower entrepreneurs to succeed in business by providing coaching, training, and technical assistance on a wide variety of topics. The WCWB differs from other programs of the CB&I because our Business Coaches are dedicated to helping the Womanpreneur see her business goals realized.
The WCWB offers entrepreneurial training programs, workshops, one-on-one counseling, coaching and special events to women in all stages of business development. Using in-person, phone, and web-based delivery methods, the WCWB provides services throughout most of the State of Washington. We are able to serve you in English or Spanish.
