Radio station AM1240 KGY – serving Olympia and Thurston County for more than 90 years announced today a new programming initiative called KGY’s NEW SEASON.  During this time the radio station will be reinventing the stations format, audience services and programming elements.

In doing so listeners will be invited to visit  www.KGYRadio.com or call 855-549-6397 and offer ideas and suggestions of what they want to hear.  “KGY is moving  to a new level to compete in today’s complex media terrain.   We want to deliver what the community thinks is important to them…and frankly we’re excited to hear what they have to say,” said Kevin Huffer, station Operations Manager.

“I have always loved the great history of KGY in Olympia and our opportunity in the future with radio, online, mobile and social media is to remain relevant and unique for the community,” commented KGY AM/FM General Manager, Jackson Dell Weaver.

He continued, “We’ve always had a big news presence as well as music, sports, weather and personalities.  But in our NEW SEASON we’ll ask existing and new listeners what they want to hear.”

Recently KGY added the Dennis Miller Show 10A-1P, “Let’s Talk” at 9AM (starts 10/15), and CNN’s Dr. Gupta medical show throughout mornings.  KGY is also now streaming  online and has built both Apple and Android apps for listeners.  There is even a Facebook page for KGY’s audience interaction.

AM 1240 KGY celebrates its 90th anniversary this year and is one of the first stations in America to sign on the air in 1922.  The Kerry family has operated the station since buying it in 1939.    AM1240 KGY provides local news, weather & sports for the South Sound and is online at www.kgyradio.com   KGY/FM 96.9, now branded as “96.9 KAYO” signed on the air in 1992 and is streamed at www.KAYO.FM.
