Greene Realty Group’s Success Is All About Building Relationships

No one in Thurston County will argue against the point: our local real estate market has taken a hit in recent years. But Jim Greene, owner and designated broker at Olympia’s Green Realty Group isn’t panicked – he doesn’t even sound the least bit discouraged.

Why? Because Greene’s realty company – and its 31 agents – continues to make sales and look to the future with optimism.

“We’re getting a large majority of the business that’s taking place out there,” says Jim. He attributes that success with the relationships Greene Realty Group’s agents have with the people in the community. “That’s been a big help.”

It’s just this type of relationship building that Jim says is his favorite part of being in the real estate business.

“I love the relationships that I’ve built over the last 15 years,” he says. “I love meeting people and enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds.”

Born in Aberdeen, Jim’s moved with his family to Olympia when he was 15 years old. Jim graduated from Washington State University, and spent three years working in the golf industry before jumping into real estate.

“I was one of the top-producing agents in Thurston County for about 11 years,” Jim says, “and I decided to start up my own company.” Green Realty Group was founded in 2005, just after Jim was named the Olympia/Thurston County Association of Realtors 2004 Realtor of the Year.

Hard work and core values got Jim where he is today, and he holds his agents to the same high standards. Again, it all comes back to the importance of relationships. “We don’t want to be a transactional business, we want to be a relationship business,” Jim says.

And the Golden Rule rules at Greene Realty Group. Simply put: Treat others the way you want to be treated.

“It’s stressed to the agents that come to my company that this is the way we do business here,” says Jim. “And in the long run, it’s not about the commission check that we earn, it’s about the long-lasting relationships that we build with our clients.”

Agents with Greene Realty Group are also committed to helping their community flourish. Following Jim’s lead – he’s a board member and past president for the South Puget Sound Community College Foundation and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Thurston County – many of his agents are involved in civic organizations, including the Junior League of Olympia and the Thurston County Food Bank.

“We’re very heavily involved in the community,” says Jim. “We donate to quite a few nonprofit organizations here in town.”

Located on Harrison Avenue in West Olympia just off Highway 101, the Greene Realty Group office reflect a warm, professional, and decidedly Pacific Northwest flair, with high ceilings and streaming sunshine.

Another thing that sets Greene Realty Group apart is its in-house marketing and design department. “That makes us a little more unique,” says Jim.

And in this slower real estate climate, every little bit that makes you stand apart helps.

“We’re not as busy as we used to be,” says Jim, “but we’re certainly still busy enough to keep going, and it’s all because of those relationships.”

“We’re also pretty diverse,” he continues. “We have a lot of agents that come from different backgrounds, and we have a lot of agents that sell different types of real estate.” The agents at Greene Realty Group aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket – they’re doing a variety of things to survive and thrive.

“We’re doing new construction, waterfront, foreclosures, first-time homebuyers — we’re all over the board,” says Jim. “Which is where you really need to be to keep going.”
