Dancing for STARS takes place October 20, 2018 at the Olympia Senior Center. Paul Taylor, Director of the STARS Adult Day Program, explains that “The purpose of the show is primarily to raise funds for the STARS Adult Day Program, but it is also a celebration of dance as a form of creative expression and art. The show is a fun opportunity for local dancers to perform in front of an audience and we’ve been able to raise more than $1,500 for the Stars Adult Day Program. A variety of dance groups participate with a wonderful display of various dance forms including ballroom, western swing, group dance, Hawaiian, Middle Eastern, and Zumba!”

STARS is an adult day program of classes, outings, projects, sing-alongs, and activities for seniors needing extra care. It allows their caregivers to take a much-needed break knowing their family members are safe and having fun.

“The STARS participants explore a lot of art forms and enjoy challenging their creativity in the activities they do. Dancing for STARS is a celebration of that creative spirit for both the STARS program and participating dancers and dance groups,” says Taylor.

Another program under Taylor’s direction is the Momentia support group. More than in-house memory-loss care, “Momentia activities are planned monthly and include memory cafes, dine out afternoons, out and about walking or garden viewing events, music mends minds, weekly sing-a-longs, and some art gallery tours,” says Taylor.

If you or someone you love could benefit from these amazing programs, check out their events calendar for more information. Tickets to Dancing for STARS are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors and children. Purchase them at either the Lacey or Olympia Senior Centers or by calling 360-586-6181.
