2013 Rapture PosterWestport Winery’s sparkling cranberry wine Rapture of the Deep has been named one of the Northwest’s top 100 wines. According to the announcement, “The Great Northwest Wine crew tasted more than 5,000 wines in 2013, and we have come up with 100 wines from Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and Idaho that really resonated with us.”

The winery, located in the heart of Washington’s Cranberry Coast, crafts four unique cranberry wines including Bog Berry Blush (a cranberry Gewurztraminer blend), Shelter From The Storm (a port-style cranberry, blackberry and blueberry wine), Cranberry Coast (a still cranberry wine) and the top-rated Rapture of the Deep.

The editors wrote of Rapture, “Dana Roberts crafted this stunning bubbly using cranberries grown on the nearby Washington coast. He leads the winemaking at this family operation just a few miles from the coastal town of Westport. Roberts crafts a dizzying 33 different wines, and this one really stands out. The spritz beautifully balances the sweetness throughout. This is the perfect wine to pair with roasted turkey. It also will work with a picnic or brunch.” The Roberts family also suggest that this wine pairs well with beef and pork with great popularity for both those who enjoy red wines and those who prefer fruit wines.

Each of Westport’s wines benefits a different local charity with a portion of the proceeds of Rapture of the Deep, contributing to Aberdeen’s Driftwood Players. The label for this highly acclaimed creation features an underwater photograph by winery co-owner Blain Roberts of a Hawaiian octopus. Roberts was the founder of Lahaina Divers, Hawaii’s largest charter scuba diving business.

Westport Winery and Vineyards By-the-Sea with its unique sculpture garden and grape maze is located on the corner of Highway 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and the Westport ‘Y’. The winery and bakery are open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restaurant is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for dinner on Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
