Olympia Weekend Event Calendar

Published for Friday, August 16

The forecast is improving.  Mother Nature won’t let us down.  The rain will stop.  I’m promised of that every hour I check the forecast.  Somehow, the rain is easier to manage in mid-August (for a few days, during the week) because I know it isn’t the start of months of downpour.

Here’s what’s happening around Olympia this weekend.

  • Watch Patrick Dougherty finish his live sculpture at the Hands On Children’s Museum.   The outdoor exhibit opens officially next weekend during Sand in the City.
  • Enjoy one of two outdoor movies playing on Friday night – one at Tumwater Valley Golf Course and the other at the Capitol mansion.  See the listing here.
  • Walk your pet in the 84th Annual Pet Parade in downtown Olympia.  Parade begins at 10:00 am on Saturday.
  • Run the Thunder Rumble 5k race in Tumwater on Saturday morning.
  • Chat with a beach naturalist at Burfoot or Priest Point parks on Saturday or Tolmie or Frye Cove parks on Sunday.
  • Wander through model homes during the Olympia Master Builders 2013 Tour of Homes.
  • Listen to a story at Priest Point Park on Saturday night.
  • Visit a new park or beach.
  • Treat your sweetie to an awesome date night.
  • Rent a kayak or a paddleboard and explore the South Puget Sound waters.
  • Try a new hike with your kids and dogs.
