The first ever Women’s Olympic Trials Marathon Course is back!

Did you know that the first ever Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials was run right here in Thurston County, traversing Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater?  The 1984 Women’s Olympic Trials was a major event for our region and a historic moment in running. Read a full story here.

For the last year and a half a group of local runners and running enthusiasts have been diligently working to revive the original 1984 Trials course.  On July 16 the course will be reborn!  Over 85% of the original course has been incorporated into the Trials Legacy Marathon, and the course has been certified by the United States Track and Field Association.  The course is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, and with a 150 foot overall elevation drop, it is one of the fastest courses in the region for runners seeking to qualify for Boston or simply set a personal best.

Proceeds from the race will be dedicated to helping local running programs and to establish a permanent monument to the original, first ever, Women’s Olympic Trials.  Our long-term vision is to create a significant monument to be located in Olympia’s Marathon Park.
