We continue with our new season of free noon hour monthly history talks at Tumwater’s Schmidt House on Thursday, Nov. 17. Our special guest this month is State Parks historian, Exhibit Development Coordinator, Sam Wotipka. He’ll be talking about our two state parks in Thurston County and other State Park properties in our local area. Who was Tolmie and who in the world is Millersylvania? Was there a Miller and someone named Sylvan? Sam will be talking about how our state parks were developed and how our two local ones got their names. This will also involve the history of the CCC Camp crews during the FDR years, which along with the WPA and other programs, built many public projects that remain to this very day.
These talks are free, although donations are gratefully accepted to keep this series going strong. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. on a first come, first seated basis and the doors close when the house reaches capacity. Our thanks to the City of Tumwater and TCTV local cable TV on the Tumwater channel 26 on Comcast, for their help. Each talk is video recorded for future release on that channel.
