For our December 15, 2016 presentation we at Thurston County’s oldest American community celebrate with one of our newest and fastest-growing cities, Lacey.  We welcome Erin Quinn Valcho, director of the Lacey Museum and story-teller Ken Balsley as they make a joint illustrated presentation: “Lacey’s 50th Birthday”

They’ll be talking about the history of the area before Lacey became separate from Olympia, how that separation came about, and how it has grown so quickly over the past 50 years.  You’ll hear stories relating to St. Martin’s University, the destination resorts at the many area lakes, the railroad station, South Sound shopping mall, expansion into Hawk’s Prairie and more background that you may have never heard about this vibrant community.  You’ll also hear the most recent news about their plans for the future.

A reminder, our free talks each month are on a first-come, first-seated basis and the doors open at 11:30 a.m. for the noon hour talk.  Doors are closed as we reach capacity, but don’t worry because our programs are broadcast on TCTV, Tumwater’s Comcast channel 26 three to four weeks after our live presentation.  Donations are gratefully accepted.
