Books, Brownies, and Beans is back! This popular used book sale returns live and in person. One of the largest one-day used book sales in the South Sound, all proceeds benefit three local nonprofits: Pizza Klatch, Thurston County Food Bank ForKids: Weekend Backpacks, and Thurston Climate Action Team. Now in its 19th year, the sale has raised more than $85,000 to benefit local non-profits serving the Thurston County.

During the pandemic, the sale took place virtually. But there were no brownies, coffee, or live entertainment. “It’s time to gather again,” said Christine Parke, event co-chair. “We are thrilled to open our doors to the public and offer the full in-person experience. Touch the books, bring the kids, listen to music, munch on brownies, linger and talk to friends.”

Sponsored by the Olympian Unitarian Universalist Congregation (OUUC), the sale utilizes the entire church building. There are ten thousand gently used books, CDs and DVDs. Shoppers can stroll through several rooms overflowing with books organized by subject matter and particular interest. “We’ve got beautiful, donated books, from Pulitzer Prize winners to children’s books. Plus, we’ve got brownies, entertainment, and coffee,” said Sally Alhadeff, event co-chair. “It’s a family event with budget-friendly pricing,” she added.

Books, Brownies, and Beans takes place on Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Olympia Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 2315 Division St. NW, Olympia, WA 98502. It is a free event, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own tote bags. OUUC Covid protocols in place.
