Those of us with allergies or dietary restrictions can almost dread this time of year. The time of, “Sorry, you can’t eat this” as the rest of your party indulges in pumpkin spice everything, creamy soups and holiday sweets galore. Take heart! The Park Side Cafe, a vegan restaurant in Olympia, is serving up all your holiday favorites so you don’t have to be left out in the cold when it comes to those favorite comfort foods.
Treat Yourself to a Vegan Halloween in Olympia
Halloween really kicks off the holiday season and this year The Park Side Café wants to make sure everyone can get a treat and enjoy it! Stop by Halloween weekend – October 29-31 – for some homemade, vegan candy that’s so good it’s scary!
On Sunday, October 30, be sure to come by for a lunch break from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., where Almost Blue will entertain you with live music on their rooftop dining area. Celebrate the wonderful fall season and enjoy outdoor dining on the last day before they close the patio until next spring!
Seasonal Vegan Coffee in Olympia
Pumpkin Spice is really my bane. I love it. A lot. But I am also dairy-intolerant. This season is so hard for me with all the pumpkin spice lattes – if you didn’t know, the flavor sauce has dairy in it, from almost all coffee shops, so it’s not dairy-free even if made with a milk alternative. And then there’s pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup, the list goes on! Thankfully, we now have The Park Side Café in Olympia to satisfy our seasonal cravings.
This fall The Park Side Café has incredible non-dairy coffee drinks like peanut butter-bier cold brew, pecan praline latte, pumpkin cream cold brew, and cinnamon bun latte. All of their drinks are made with organic and local Covabrelli coffee. “Our pumpkin sauce is made from scratch using organic pumpkins from Wobbly Cart Farm and our Organic cold brew is from Claddagh Cold Brew in Tumwater,” shares Victoria Kantargis, one of the manager’s of The Park Side Café. “It has rich flavors and is perfectly peppy!” Seriously – non dairy pumpkin anything is just a dream come true, so go and try one, you won’t be disappointed!
Olympia Vegan Restaurant Serves Up Hand Pies
Need something warm and filling to go with your coffee? Try a hand pie! The Park Side Café is debuting new hand pies for the fall season. “We have the Seitan Steak and Potato Hand Pie,” shares Kantargis. “It has a super luscious gravy of caramelized onions simmered in malbec red wine and herbs. And then, we have the Samosa Hand pie with mint chutney dipping sauce. It has lots of fresh veggies and features the fabulous and impressive cauliflower from Wobbly Cart Farm!”
Hand pies are great to-go meals, or to enjoy at the café with a friend. As the weather turns colder, these warm meals are much better than a cold sandwich from home in the middle of a wet work day or as a pick-me-up while running errands.
Vegan Holiday Food Orders
The big food holidays are coming up fast and those of us with allergies know we have to plan for ourselves! Even if you are not the host of this year’s family gathering, you are probably taking your own food with you, to make sure you have something to eat – I know I do! The Park Side Café in Olympia can help with their special pre-order menus for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“We will have everything you need for your plant-based and vegan holiday meal, ready to take home and bake,” shares Kantargis. “In past years, we have had items such as green bean casserole, garlic mashed potatoes, seitan ham roast, tofu roast with wild rice stuffing, orange glazed carrots, butternut mac and peas, brioche rolls, pumpkin cheesecake, apple pie, cream pie, and seasonal cookies!”
Not only do they cater to vegan diets, but these pre-orders can also accommodate other allergies and diets including gluten, soy, nuts, and more.
Need something for another special occasion? From birthdays and anniversaries to Hanukkah and New Year’s Eve, they can make you a special dessert that will be the icing on your important day.
