When the not-for-profit community media center, TCMedia, faced new budget challenges with the loss of their facility underwriting this year, they knew it was going to take more than bake sales and walkathons to cover their shortfall. Instead, their solution was to utilize the creative space and talent within their organization: “The Studio A Concert Series.”

“The Concerts actually serve several purposes,“ explains TCMedia CEO Deborah Vinsell, “we’ll showcase regional talent for a live studio audience; we’ll record the concerts for future replay on TCTV Cable channel 77; and we’ll raise dollars to help support our mission to provide communication resources to the greater Thurston County community.”

TCMedia’s “Studio A” is a behemoth of a space, used for recording events like candidate forums, kids filmmaking classes and other community events. Rarely are the farthest recesses of this sound stage used – that will all change on Friday, September 23 when the lights come up on hometown hero, Ethan Tucker. “I am a storyteller,” says Ethan,” and my songs are personal, so every show is like an adventure. I tell jokes. I try to make people laugh. Sometimes people get emotional, because it’s very personal, especially the acoustic performances by myself, it’s like hanging out in my living room.” And while there won’t be couches, Deborah promises this will be a memorable performance.

“Think Austin City Limits or MTV Unplugged,” says Deobrah, “it will be a similar experience. We will transform our main television studio into an intimate, club-like venue with vivid lighting, bistro tables and, of course, an amazing local audience.”

The limited seating of 72 concert-goers will make this a different kind of event. “Every person in the room will have a great view of the stage,” assures Deborah, “and there will be a pre-concert reception with appetizers and a chance to mingle.” Yes, it sounds oddly like the ‘old normal’ and that is part of the appeal – a gathering to enjoy wonderful music and conversation, all while benefitting an important resource – local art and media.

Six years ago, Ethan Tucker, had the nation’s attention as a competitor on The Voice. This week, he released the first single from his forthcoming album with a track called Forces. “This is the beginning of a new chapter,” says Ethan, “I’ve been working on the album for four years and I am really excited about it.”

TCMedia is pleased to present Ethan Tucker for this limited engagement on September 23 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person and tables of four can be reserved in advance.

Tickets are available here or by calling TCMedia directly at 360.956.3100.

Mark your calendar as the series continues in November when TCMedia presents Scott Cossu  on November 19.
