The first baby of 2022 born at Providence St. Peter Hospital came into the world at 10:28 a.m. It was the only baby born on January 1 at St. Peter.

Violet Lynn Wiggins weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 18 inches long. Violet is the daughter of Tiffany Jensen and Charles Wiggins of Aberdeen.

Tiffany Jensen wasn’t due until January 13, but her water broke at home Thursday morning, December 30. The couple drove to St. Peter Hospital, but Violet wasn’t quite ready.

“She was just hanging out and not ready to come out until the new year,” Tiffany said. “We definitely didn’t expect to have a New Year’s baby but that’s the way it worked out and it’s pretty cool.”

Dr. Amanda Achterman delivered the baby.

Tiffany and Charles were excited to introduce the newest member of the family to her siblings. Violet is the couple’s fourth child. Her siblings are Asher Groesch (5), Delilah Wiggins (8) and Titan Wiggins (5).

Violet was chosen as the name several months ago. “We found out we were having a girl and it just came out of the air to me, it is beautiful, and we just stuck with it,” Tiffany said.  Violet’s middle name – Lynn – was chosen because it is Tiffany’s mother’s middle name. Asher middle’s name – Michael – is Tiffany’s dad’s middle name.

Tiffany and Charles are both longtime Aberdeen residents, so the family has been spending the past few days with lots of “Facetime” calls with family and friends.

“All the grandparents and cousins and friends,” Tiffany said. “It’s been an awesome experience.”

There were 2,156 babies born at Providence St. Peter Hospital in 2021; 2,030 in 2020; 2,201 in 2019; 2,297 in 2018; 2,098 in 2017 and 2,258 in 2016.
