Capital Senior Jordan Ziegler threw 6 2/3 innings and junior Kayden Dawson’s 5th inning homer led the Capital Cougar boys baseball team to a 7-3 SSC 3A victory Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Watts Field in Olympia.

North Thurston (5-4 3A SSC) Head Coach Pete Peppley was excited going into the game and felt his team was ready to play with senior Chase Clark taking the mound. “Right now, Chase Clark just leads the group and the team responds to him,” Peppley noted. Clark was removed from the game in the top of the third after injuring his knee in a collision at first base.

Capital (5-4 3A SSC) led 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth when Dawson went deep to right for a three-run home run to help put up five runs for Capital in the inning. Capital Coach Brian Shannon was pleased with the win and the fight of his team. “We are a work in progress and have played really good baseball lately,” noted Shannon. “Kolby Kero is hitting close to 500 and it is just great to get the kids out here and play some ball and work together as a team.”

Peppley is thrilled that his team is able to play but noted the season has had some challenges after losing a strong senior class two years ago and having no baseball last spring. “It is too bad the season is shortened but it is nice to be out and have the kids playing and working hard, remarked Peppley. “We lost a few kids with COVID, and kids finding jobs and such, but we are building a solid core of kids here at North Thurston.”
