This holiday season in Olympia has movies to offer those looking to get out and about this winter. With the temperatures dipping down into freezing range, indoor activities are a must. Last Christmas

For those out there looking for a romantic holiday movie this season, “Last Christmas” is the one to punch your ticket. A comedy set in London, “Last Christmas” stars Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding as two people who run into each other and discover they have a one-of-a-kind love during the holiday season. With a PG-13 rating, this movie is perfect for wholesome date nights or evenings out with friends.

The movie follows a salesperson around Christmas time as he tries to care for and contain a horde of little monsters. This 1980s movie totes a PG rating, though viewers should take caution and not underestimate the furry creatures in this movie, many moments may frighten some younger viewers. If you’re looking for a bit of dark humor this holiday season, Gremlins is playing only once this season in Lacey at the Regal Martin Village.

The Polar Express

When hunting for holiday movies in Olympia this season, you’d be remiss if you don’t attend possibly one of the only showings of “The Polar Express” in Thurston County. A movie that has hot chocolate, Tom Hanks and Santa won’t disappoint any viewer. This is one of those movies that’s perfect for families, date nights or a movie with friends. “The Polar Express,” a movie based off the children’s book of the same name, follows a child on an adventure to the North Pole. This is a G movie without inappropriate themes so is suitable for audiences of all ages.

The Bolshoi Ballet: The Nutcracker

A classic holiday favorite, “The Nutcracker,” will play at the Century Olympia theater this December one day only. For those unfamiliar with the story, the 1892 play centers around a young child who becomes friends with a nutcracker on Christmas Eve and together they battle the Mouse King. Though each reincarnation of the play is different, this is the main storyline. The Nutcracker is a ballet performance that is a sight to behold on the big screen for families and theatergoers in Thurston County.
