The Tumwater T-Birds hosted Woodland High School in a 2A District 4 playoff game Saturday, November 3, and won 58-38 to gain a birth in the State playoff round of 16. Woodland took an early lead when senior Tyler Flanagan returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Both teams battled into the fourth quarter trading touchdowns the entire game. Tumwater ran for seven touchdowns including three from Dylan Loftis, who led all runners with 243 yards. Flanagan led the Beavers with 268 passing yards and 161 yards rushing.
Tumwater coach Bill Beattie was impressed with his team’s performance and praised the play of Flanagan. “He is the real deal. It took us pretty much the first half to adjust to him. Even though we knew he was fast, he was a bit faster and elusive then we thought. I’m excited to see what happens tomorrow (2A State seeding meeting) and we are excited to still be in it.” said Beattie. Playoff seeds will come out Sunday to place the 16 remaining 2A teams, which includes undefeated Black Hills High school which won Friday 45-7 over Columbia River.
