FirstLight Home Care has done it again. FirstLight has been voted the “Best Home Care Agency” in the South Sound for the third time in three years. Thousands of people vote each year for the best restaurants, dentists, real estate agents and who to trust with their loved ones when it comes to home care. Voters in the annual Best of South Sound contest have chosen FirstLight Home Care every year of their three-year existence.

It seems hard to believe that such a young company has received such distinction and acclaim, but it’s a recognition of the excellence owner Sarah Lane strives for each and every day.

Lane was thrilled to receive the honor and appreciates the support from the community, but she and her staff keep their focus on working for the South Sound families who have invited them into their homes. “We are ever mindful of the fact that we are caring for beloved family members and that is what keeps us growing and getting better each year,” shares Lane.

The staff at FirstLight has grown over the past three years and they have been able to do more for more families as well as the community. Today, FirstLight Home Care employs 30 caregivers, which means more families are getting the help they need. The caregivers at FirstLight are given opportunities to enhance their skills and learn new ones with the on-going training and certifications made available to them at no cost through their employer. “We have chosen to grow by focusing on expanding our scope of practice and providing more services to families in the South Sound instead of growing geographically,” explains Lane. In November 2017, four of the many devoted FirstLight Home Care caregivers were nominated for Outstanding Caregiver awards in our community and two were named Outstanding Caregivers of the Year.

The services that FirstLight provides are customized to each family and can range from just a few hours a day to 24/7 care. More families are choosing home-based services as opposed to nursing home placements for their aging loved ones. Keeping people in their homes and familiar surroundings as they age can help them to maintain their independence and quality of life longer.

When a family member can no longer perform daily activities such as bathing and eating on their own, it is time for some assistance. A few hours to a full day of home care services can bridge the gap and allow them to remain in their own home. FirstLight can also help family caregivers by providing respite care so that families don’t suffer the “burnout” that can result from a family member trying to do everything on their own. Many families choose to use FirstLight for most of their home care needs so that they can simply enjoy their family member while visiting.

FirstLight Home Care client Lawrence says, “The caretaker I have happens to be the best in the county. Her sensitivity to my needs has been outstanding. She has become a friend. She is always on time and does all the things that need to be done. She senses and recognizes, does what needs to be done without me having to say anything.”

Simply making life more manageable is a big part of what FirstLight can provide for their elderly clients. As another customer, Barbara, shares, “The gal I have is always willing to do anything I might ask. She takes me shopping because I can’t do that by myself. She’s always on time and very nice to be around.”

FirstLight Home Care recently partnered with the Nisqually Tribe through their elder caregiving program. This program supports the unpaid caregivers of Native American elders. FirstLight provides care so that the caregivers can get some respite and return to their family members refreshed.

FirstLight co-owners Sarah and Greg Lane continue to find new ways to serve the families of the South Sound. FirstLight Home Care is located at 921 Lakeridge Way SW, Suite 203, in Olympia. You can reach them by calling 360-489-1621 or visiting the FirstLight Home Care website.
