We’ve reached that midpoint in February.  It’s a time that marks a halfway point and signals that maybe the nasty winter weather is finally over (maybe!).  Mid-winter break, a four day weekend surrounding President’s Day, is a time that Olympia area students celebrate.  Enjoy the weekend, whether it’s extended or not.

  • Catch the tip off of your favorite high school basketball team.  District playoff schedule can be found here.
  • Plan your Thurston County staycation.
  • Experience the Oly Old-Time Music Festival in downtown Olympia throughout the weekend.  More information on dances and concerts can be found here.
  • Get a free dental screening at the Hands On Children’s Museum, courtesy of Small to Tall Pediatric Dentistry, on Saturday from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.
  • Eat at Mijas, a Mexican restaurant staffed by survivors of SafePlace.  They serve an authentic meal the third Saturday of each month.
  • Listen to local energy experts explain how you can lower your heating bill at a workshop on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
  • Support SafePlace Olympia at Studio West Dance Academy’scharity gala on Saturday at 8:00 pm.  Rush tickets may still be available at www.olytix.org.
  • Take a winter walk at the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
  • Drive out to Damon Point in Ocean Shores and observe the snowy owls.
