At our house, “summer” will only last for nine more days. On September 5, the game changes and no longer is there freedom around bedtime or lazy mornings. Like thousands of Thurston County families, our house will return to being structured by bell schedules, soccer games, and homework assignments.
But, for the next nine days, I’ll keep summer alive. Play outside late. Stay in your PJ’s all day. Invite friends over. Skip combing your hair.
And, then, I’ll deal with the drama on September 4, when we all realize that the bus schedule is eight precious minutes earlier and comprehend what time we need to be dressed, packed, and out the door. Cheers!
