June 23rd Educational garden tour highlights “water-wise” and “fire-wise” methods
A local Master Gardener and her landscape architect husband are generously opening their stunning garden to the public to provide education about the myriad sustainable landscaping strategies on display, as well as their brilliant plant combinations and hard-scape designs. Over 22 of their “green” landscaping practices will be highlighted, and volunteers from WSU Extension’s Native Plant Salvage Project/Foundation and the Master Gardener Foundation will be serving as docents/tour leaders.
Laura & Warren’s landscape is a stunning 4+-acre parcel that features constructed ponds/streams, ornamental native & water-wise plants, permeable pavements, recycled materials, and home-propagated plants. Docents will teach about methods to: safeguard against fire damage to homes as the climate warms; overcome drainage problems & prevent storm water pollution; reduce unwanted lawn & replace it with diverse plantings; save money on landscaping, and much more!
The Summer Solstice Garden Open Fundraiser will happen on Sunday, June 23rd between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Please share the website link https://www.nativeplantsalvage.org/garden-open with friends and neighbors. This link provides an in-depth interview with Laura & Warren, more details, photos, and online ticket purchase.
The Garden Open supports the operational costs of the WSU Thurston County Water Resources/Habitat program via its nonprofit arm, the Native Plant Salvage Foundation.
