The South Puget Sound Community College Drama Program is taking on notable novelist, playwright and screenwriter David Mamet for its winter quarter production. The program will present Race, March 4-6 at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts.
The production will be a stylized, staged reading, focusing more on the characters themselves and the message of the play, rather than a full-scale production.
In Race, two lawyers find themselves contracted to defend a wealthy white man accused of raping a black woman and discuss the racial and social implications that the case will have on their firm. There will be a discussion with the audience after the shows, which will be facilitated by the SPSCC Diversity and Equity Center, in an effort to openly communicate about the themes that the play so brazenly puts forth.
