The Salish Sea Native Arts Celebration on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Swantown Marina will bring tribal canoes back to Budd Inlet. Hours are 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Historically, Olympia was a site of inter-tribal trading, and trade between Native people and settlers to the area. This event will be the first market of its kind to operate in the spirit of this history. The event will feature Native artists, Native foods, drum groups and traditional Coast Salish canoes.
The celebration showcases invited Native artists featuring work in a variety of mediums such as weaving, carving, textiles and contemporary art. Native foods will be available for purchase and guests can see beautiful cedar canoes at the dock!
The “House of Welcome” Longhouse at The Evergreen State College and the “Home of Sacred Belongings” Museum at the Squaxin Island Tribe are pleased to honor history and celebrate contemporary Native cultures through this unique new partnership. This event is sponsored in part by National Endowment for the Arts-Our Town, Squaxin Island Tourism, Squaxin Island Museum and The Evergreen State College Longhouse.
