Learn how to help protect streams and Puget Sound while also keeping stormwater drainage away from your home by creating a beautiful rain garden. A free workshop will provide all the details needed to build one or more rain gardens in your yard to create a low-maintenance, attractive feature that will also provide habitat for birds and butterflies.

This how-to workshop will be offered on Thursday, January 15, from 6 to 8:15 p.m., with an optional hands on plant-design activity from 8:15 to 9 p.m. at the Tumwater Fire Hall, 311 Israel Rd., Tumwater.  Each participant will receive detailed information about designing and building a rain garden, as well as a free full-color handbook and beautiful poster.

The workshop is free but registration is required by visiting www.streamteam.info or calling the WSU Native Plant Salvage Project at 360-867-2167. This workshop is co-sponsored by Thurston County Stream Team and WSU Extension’s Native Plant Salvage Project.
