Local poets Emily Van Kley and Jonathan Johnson will read from recent work, including contributions to two recent anthologies of writing about Michigan’s majestic Upper Peninsula.
Emily Van Kley’s poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. She has won the Iowa Review Award and the Florida Review Editor’s Award, and was included in Best New Poets 2013. She holds an MFA from Eastern Washington University and lives with her partner in Olympia, Washington.
Johnathan Johnson is the author of the poetry collection “Mastodon, 80% Complete”(2001, Carnegie Mellon) and the memoir “Hannah and the Mountain: Notes Toward a Wilderness Fatherhood” (2005, University of Nebraska Press). He is a professor at the Inland Northwest Center for Writers, the MFA program at Eastern Washington University. Johnson spends as much time as he can in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and at the secluded, log cabin he and his wife built on the Johnson Family Farm in northern Idaho.
