Ahoy, fellow sailors! The Olympia Yacht Club (OYC) welcomes boats, especially pirate-decorated boats for its Pirates of Budd Bay annual opening day parade Saturday May 11.  Opening Day marks the start of the boating season and is a long-held tradition throughout Puget Sound.

The parade, which begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Percival Landing area and lasts about one hour is among several activities planned at the club’s facilities at 201 Simmons St. NW in downtown Olympia.  Boaters interested in participating should contact Gary Ashcraft via email at vc@theolympiayachtclub.com

Landlubbers can view the parade which is free to the public starting at 12:30 Saturday May 11th from the Percival Landing boardwalk or Port Plaza Park.  Once underway from Percival Landing the parade sails north as far as Gull Harbour along the east shore of Budd Inlet and then returns to downtown Olympia on the West Bay side.  While at Percival Landing spectators should also visit the Olympia Wooden Boat Fair which is going on the same weekend.  See Olywoodenboat.org for more information.

For more information on the Parade visit https://www.theolympiayachtclub.com   The forecast for Saturday May 11th is sunny and warm and it will be a great day to get out and watch Boating’s Opening Day Parade of Pirate Ships.
